Three Sisters & Blue Mountains Women's Health Centre

Blue Mountains Women's Health Centre

Our Mission:

To provide a range of accessible health services, applying a holistic approach, by women for women of the Blue Mountains in a safe and supportive environment.

Our services:

BMWHC was established in 1982 by a group of women volunteers who were interested in women's health issues and improving access by local women to women's health services. In 1983 the Centre received funding, and since this time, we have provided a range of women's health services including a free doctor and women's health nurse clinic, counseling, group work, health promotion, alternative health services including acupuncture and massage. We are actively involved in a range of community activities aimed at increasing community participation and awareness of issues affecting women such as sexual assault, domestic violence, cancer awareness, etc.

The Blue Mountains Women's Health Centre is a feminist organisation run by women for women. We work within a social view of women's health which acknowledges the physical, emotional and mental aspects of health as well as the broader social and economic factors that impact on women's health and ability to access services. We are committed to enhancing women's power to decide on their own health needs and to take action about them.

The Centre receives most of its funding from NSW Health, via Sydney West Area Health Service, and we are a non-government organisation managed by a community-based management committee. We are located in the Blue Mountains at 124 Lurline Street, Katoomba which is 100 kms west of Sydney.
